The Travel Channel, on a mission to introduce the world to popular food trucks and quick-serve food vendors across the U.S., will be taking to the streets of DC on Tuesday, July 24 to meet and film some of DC’s favorite food truck crews.
Their final stop of the day? Chinatown Coffee Co. for a Happy Hour event with the Fojol Brothers food truck!
Join us this TUESDAY, July 24 from 6:30-8:00pm for Happy Hour drink specials – $3 beers & a great selection of wine and absinthe – and some of the best food on wheels.

Starting March 31, Chinatown Coffee Co. will host a joint happy hour each Thursday evening from 6:30 – 8:30pm with a different DC food truck. With spring on its way and Washingtonian’s Food Truck Fight in full force, it is the perfect time to bring back this popular partnership, Food Truck Thursdays, between the brick and mortar shop and the food truck community.
The week’s featured food truck will be parked outside the shop, on the corner of 5th and H Street, NW. Customers will be able to purchase food outside and bring it into the shop to eat and enjoy some beverages. Chinatown Coffee Co. will offer $3 beer specials, in addition to a selection of wine and absinthe.

A couple weeks back chatter in the comments section suggested that a We The Pizza might be the perfect tenant for 924 5th Street NW. While that may not gain traction chef Spike Mendelsohn does have one idea in the works for our neighborhood. The Feast reports that Spike, in conjunction with the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue, has plans to bring a kosher food truck to the neighborhood. The truck called Sixth & Rye would be a once a week affair on Fridays servingtraditional Jewish items like corned beef sandwiches and knishes. ETA could be as soon as April.
Chef Spike also told the Feast he plans to expand his Good Stuff Eatery burger shack concept nationally with Philly and Chicago on the radar in the next year.

As reported by PQLiving last year, a new deep dish pizzeria called District of Pi is set to open at 910 F Street NW this Spring. While the import from St Louis will be unable to open by their original target date of 3.14.11 (pi day) they have arrived on the scene with a new food truck aptly named Pi on Wheels.
Earlier this month Pi on Wheels gave out free pizzas in Penn Quarter. The truck also did a test run this Saturday in Dupont Circle which I was able to sample. Their daily offerings include two meat and two vegetarian style 9 inch pizzas priced at $12. The signature Pi pizza is a deep dish with cornmeal crust and a sauce that I found sweeter than most. As is typical with the deep dish style the cheese is below the toppings and sauce.
Like any DC Food truck you can find the daily location of Pi on Wheels via Twitter (@PiTruckDC). Today the truck will be in Chinatown. As for when that brick and mortar restaurant will open? The guys in the truck told me likely in mid-May.
