    Keep in mind that this block face has tentatively been designated as the future home of the displaced Waffle Shop.

    We can’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. I like to see the historic features of the area preserved, but it often causes long delays in redevelopment. I vote that the decision be based on moving the project forward as quickly as possible.

    These buildings do not look like they should be saved. Keeping these preservation concerns in place has caused the whole area a lot of pain. Look at the fact that there is STILL not a hotel near the convention center and all those worthless boarded up houses up seventh street across from the convention center as an example. The district missed out on the largest building boom this country has ever seen and the convention center is surrounded by squalor. RAZE everything and let the developers create a viable space.

    I agree that the merit of the buildings on this particular block face is debatable. However if you suggested razing the DC Eagle building, Lux/Avenue, and the properties along the 1000 block of 7th Street on Square 450 to the north I’d have to strongly disagree. Those are truly great examples of historic properties and worthy of preservation.

    I agree that the Hartig Motor Company building is worth saving. I pass by it every day and often think that some renovation would make it a great space.
