Irish Channel Pub closed for renovations

The Irish Channel Pub and Red Roof Inn at 500 H Street NW in Chinatown are closed for renovations. The building permit states that the renovations are being done for “Fairfield Inns and Suites”. This suggests a transfer of ownership as Fairfield Inn is a lower cost brand of hotels franchised by Marriott International. The note on the door of the Irish Channel states they will reopen in mid February.

Great to see the Channel sprucing up a bit. I’ve noticed the construction on the patio but wasn’t aware it was closed outright. Any improvements are always welcomed, especially to the patio – it’s a favorite outdoor drinking spot.

Yeah, it’s a lower cost hotel within the Marriott brand but it’s a HUGE step up from the Red Roof Inn.

The pub was a dump. I went there for breakfast one morning and there was food and spillage on the seats and floor of the booth, along with dirty eating utensils. The food was pretty bad too. I hope they make this a better place and not just give it new windo dressing.
