A reader sent this photo to me tonight. The fire, at 2pm on Saturday, was near the intersection of 6th & K Street NW (see NPR building in background). Does anyone else have more information?

A car blew up.
I live in Madrigal Lofts and happened to be in the Benjamin Moore paint store when this incident happened. An SUV caught fire starting under the hood. The rest of the car caught fire quickly and the whole thing went up in smoke. It was actually quite intense because when the tires caught fire they sort of blew up and created a pretty noisy gunshot sound. The SUV was new. Maybe it was just a malfunctioning engine or something. I was happy to see that the fire dept. got there in about 30 seconds. As far as I could tell, no one was injured either.
Crazy. Was the car owner on the scene?
