Mandu Rumor

I read a rumor tonight that a Korean BBQ restaurant named Mandu may take the available space at City Vista next to Kushi. Mandu has family run operation in DuPont Circle location that focuses solely on Korean – no fusion. Reviews on Yelp are more favorable than the rating from food critic Tom Sietsma.

Oh this is good news–I like mandu. I’ve only been once but it would be a nice, more casual compliment, to Kushi (which seems to be more high end). I wouldn’t consider this Korean BBQ though–when I think of that I picture the little personal grills at the table. Mandu in Dupont has a nice menu and I remember really enjoying their bim bim bap.

Heard from someone who knows, this is not a rumor, this is going to happen. When i hear a timeline, I’ll post it here.

@IMGoph – yes. She ran into the retail leasing agent last night at a community meeting.

I think it basically does. Busboys is already doing temporary things in the 1500sf they’re annexing (between their original space and Taylor). The City Vista Sales center on Fifth Street will be converted to retail after all the condos sell out. That’s roughly 1400sf and will likely be targeted for a service retail oriented business.

    From Mandu’s Twitter account:

People are asking, so why not. YES, we are looking at City Vista for our 2nd location. Not official yet but very close. Stay tuned.

Awesome news, and way to scoop everyone else, no matter the method! I’ve never been to their Dupont location, but I’m generally a fan of bulgogi however I can get it. (And I’m obviously a fan of filling empty bays.) After looking at their website, I hope they bring over their $2 beer happy hour deal.

On a related note, does anyone know if Kushi will have outdoor tables when the weather warms up? (I guess it’s too premature to ask about Mandu.)

I would expect Taylor, Kushi and Mandu (if they sign on) to have some amount of outdoor seating. The sidewalks were designed for it. They just need to apply for the relevant permits and liquor license ammendments.

The K only has about 25 more units available for sale, so I’m going to guess they are starting to market the space that will be vacated once there’s no more need for a sales center, especially considering that as the weather gets warmer people will hopefully be buying more condos…
