Chinese New Year Parade
The Chinese New Year Parade will take place this Sunday, February 21st. Let’s hope they can successfully light the 5 story firecracker after last year’s difficulties.
From the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association website:
The Chinese Community of the Greater Washington Metropolitan area is going to celebrate the “Chinese Lunar New Year” in Washington, DC Chinatown on H & I Streets, NW, between 6th and 8th Streets from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
This year will be the year 4708, the year of the TIGER which begins on February 14, 2010 and ends on February 2, 2011. In Chinese legend, people born in the year of the TIGER are often sensitive, given to deep thinking, capable of great sympathy with fearless and fiery fighter. They are physically powerful, gracious, independent and brave, they are extremely bold animals. However, they are friendly and loving but selfish and short tempered. Tigers are also instilled with a good dose of courage. As a result, they are capable and able to achieve great goals. This TIGER year will bring stability and growth where power and brave pays off.
Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA) is very proud to sponsor this event. The festival includes folk dances, musical bands from various genres, local high school, cultural exhibition and a parade. The popular lion and dragon dances, as well as a five-story high firecracker that will be lit at 3:45 p.m. will also be featured in the program. Please bring your friends and family to join us for this exciting and joyful event which routinely attracts more than 30,000 patrons/tourists.
