Capital Bikeshare station at 4th & E NW finally arrives

The Capital Bikeshare station at 4th & E NW, which was part of the original proposal, finally was installed this past Saturday. The initial delay was due to the fact a SmartBike station occupied the space and needed to be phased out. That Smart Bike station was removed a few months ago.

The only Penn Quarter CaBi station still yet to arrive from the original plan is the 7th Street NW/Navy Memorial station.

Another Liberty Market Update

Chef Kenac’s assistant sent me a partial list of the vendors to attend the market this Saturday.

  • Old City Green – Strawberries-Fruits/GardenHerbs
  • Worthwhile Meats – Specialty Pork Turnip Green Sausages/Summer Veggies La Grecque
  • Tofu Delights – Prepared Vegetarian Foods
  • Inspired Occasions – Homemade Granola
  • Cake Dulce – Pastries-Desserts-CakePops
  • Victoria Lai – Homemade Ice Cream
  • Fresh Confectioners – Artisan Sweets-Confections

Bad news is that Overlook Farm, which presumably was the larger produce provider, will not be attending the market this weekend afterall.

Liberty North Market will have Produce on Saturday

The Liberty North Community Market at 5th and I Streets NW will have produce this Saturday June 25th. The market runs from 10-4pm both days on the weekend. But the farmer’s market is only on Saturday and the farmers may not stay until the end of the market if they either sell out of product or business is slow. So come early on Saturday.

We’ve all clamored for produce and now is the time to step up and support the market. Produce is not a high markup item so the farmer’s need volume business to make participating in our community market worth their while. A jewelry vendor may only need to sell three pieces to have a good day. The Liberty North market manager Chef Kenac urged at this weeks’ MVSNA meeting that a farmer needs hundreds of transactions.

Kenac also stated that the market will feature a meat vendor and pantry items like pickles and cheeses this weekend. I’ve pressed for more specifics on the food vendors and will post if he passes them along.

Interior Buildout of 425 Eye Completed

According to CityBiz, the interior buildout of the 425 Eye Office building is now completed. Sigal Construction performed the initial renovation for Paramount Development and was kept on to do the interior buildout by Veteran Affairs which signed a lease last year to be the new tenant.

Unique attributes of the project include a central high-density filing room which required slab reinforcement with steel beams and additional concrete. VA also specified a glass wall partition system provided and installed by DIRTT Systems with one floor receiving more than one mile of linear feet of its product.

A total of 45 high-tech conference rooms with audio visual capabilities were built throughout VA’s space. Additional systems and security upgrades were installed throughout the building, including a retrofit of the recently renovated building lobby to accommodate x-ray screenings and outside visitors for in-person and video conference hearings.

Still no word on retailers for the ground floor. Although it is widely said the landlord desires a restaurant for the 4th and Eye corner space. Transwestern Retail is the retail leasing agent.

I created the above image in 2009. DCMetrocentric is running the same one today but I believe they just found it via internet search
