By now, all property owners in the Mount Vernon Triangle should have received their BID Tax bill. This tax payment funds the Mount Vernon Triangle Community Investment District (MVT CID), a 501(c) 6 nonprofit organization established to enhance the overall quality of life for residents, employees, visitors and property owners in the Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood. The MVT CID is a designated geographic area in which the property owners pay a supplementary real property tax in order to provide funds for the following services:
- Clean Team Ambassadors to help keep MVT clean, safe, and well-landscaped
- Public realm maintenance and enhancements
- Marketing, communications and economic development
- Advocacy with public and private sector decision makers
- Planning and transit enhancements
- Community building and special events
The BID tax bills for the second half of fiscal year 2015 were sent out by regular last week. Bills are due to the DC Office of Tax and Revenue by April 1, 2015. Non-payment incurs additional penalties and interest.
You can visit http://www.mountvernontriangle.org/about/bid-tax-payment-instructions to get more information and learn about the best methods pf payment. And as of March 1st, 2015, you can now pay your bill online by going to the Tax Payer Service Center website: https://www.taxpayerservicecenter.com/RP_Search.jsp?search_type=Assessment. Just enter your square and lot numbers (ex: 0528 0001) you’ll be able to access your property information. Select “View Tax Information” and “Click here to make payment” to pay your BID tax.
Do not assume that your mortgage lender will pay this bill as it is not part of most escrow accounts. And although the MVT CID has not, to date, pursued non-payers, property owners will pay the entire past due amount along with accrued penalties and interest upon the sale of your property.
