On Tuesday, November 18, utility relocation work will continue on the Third Street Tunnel with Phase 2 being given extended permit hours allowing construction activity to continue on weekdays until midnight. This permit is different from the first phase of the utility work which allowed activity until 10 p.m. on weekdays. The Phase 2 construction activities could last six months and will take place along Massachusetts Avenue and H Street NW between 2nd and 4th Streets NW.
Under this permit, the District Department of Transportation (DDoT) will allow construction activities during the following hours:
- Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to midnight
- Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Triangle and nearby residents have lived with construction for years and generally tolerate it well as a temporary inconvenience to future improvements. But what do you think about construction occurring late into a weekday work night?
