The Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District (MVTCID) has secured a new market operator for this upcoming summer. FreshFarm Markets will operate a farm stand on the sidewalk plaza in front of City Vista at 5th and K Streets NW. Beginning Saturday June 7th the market will operate from 10 AM to 1 PM and will continue each Saturday morning through October 25th.
We have had markets in past years at 5th & I that I think most of us would deem failures. I’m encouraged by the plan for this summer and feel it is better positioned for success. This new launch is headed by new leadership at the MVTCID and a new market operator in FreshFarm (past was Chef Kenac; Diverse Market Management). These new groups understand a small food market is better suited to what residents desire than the past market littered with crafts and t-shirts. FreshFarm has been sucessfully operating the Penn Quarter market for years. I also feel 5th & K is a more vibrant and more accessible location than the asphalt parking lot behind chained linked fence the past markets called home at 5th & I. Time will tell, but I’m very optimistic.
