On Wednesday, February 12th the Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District (MVTCID) and Kids in the Triangle (KITT) held an education forum for the community called “How Growing Downtown Families Approach DC Public Education.” The forum was an intimate conversation between the growing population of families in our neighborhood and the education leadership of Washington, DC. Attended by Kaya Henderson, Chancellor of D.C. Public Schools; Scott Pearson, Executive Director of the DC Public Charter School Board; and Principal Michael Moss of the Walker Jones Education Campus. ANC representatives Marge Marceda and Rachelle Nigro were also in attendance.
For many of the new families of MVT it was the first chance to get an opportunity to hear about the advances of DCPS and DCPCS over the past few years. It was also a chance to hear about the future plans of our inboundary school Walker Jones. With the due date of the common application for elementary school approaching on March 3, parents were eager to know about DCPS and DCPCS were working together to coordinate on projects. Principal Moss, in addition to the future open houses at Walker Jones, agreed to visit with the KITT to involve the community with the school.
