The Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District (MVTCID) is requesting proposals from artists interested in creating a work of public art for the Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood in Washington DC. The sculpture that will enliven public space near the intersection of 3rd Street, NW and Massachusetts Avenue, NW. The work should take into account the scale and design of remaining historic buildings and new buildings of this emerging neighborhood.
About the Project
- The project budget is not to exceed $50,000. Fundraising is taking place now.
- The sculpture will be located outside on the north side of the intersections of 3rd Street, NW and Massachusetts Avenue, NW in a grassy island.
- The sculpture should be relate to the site and the Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood.
- The sculpture is expected to be installed in 2012.
MVTCID is looking for an original public art sculpture in keeping with the scale and setting that will serve as a “gateway” from the East End into Mount Vernon Triangle. The sculpture can be any medium, but must be free standing and large enough to be highly visible and durable for the outdoor location. This will be a permanent installation.
Works that may not be ideal are fragile sculptures that will not hold up to a high-traffic environment, vandalism, and extreme weather conditions. A work submitted may be existing or a new fabrication. An artist may submit more than one proposal.
