WBJ: Developers race to capitalize on Mount Vernon Triangle’s cachet

Sarah Krouse of the Washington Business Journal author’s yet another spotlight on the apartment construction kickstarting in the Mount Vernon Triangle. The article begins with a highlight on Equity Residential’s recent resurrection of the bankrupt Dumont condos as luxury apartments. It then progresses to what’s on the horizon including the Stuart/Paradigm project on the 400 block of L Street NW, the recently announced Douglas/Kettler apartment development at 450 K Street NW, and hints at another strong possibilty from Douglas of a 500-unit apartment complex at the old AV Ristorante Italiano site at 6th and New York Ave NW.

The development news is always welcome but what do you think of Sara’s lead in:

The 20- and 30-something D.C. yuppy needs the following: 500 square feet to call home, a grocery store and sushi. Oh, and maybe a well-known mixologist within walking distance.

    Sarah sent me a note. Her lead was meant to be taken as self deprecating humor. She loves a good cocktail from the Passenger and she calls a 450 SF space her home.

    Perhaps the more interesting question is… simply by living downtown in a hi-rise do you qualify as a yuppie to some degree or another?

    I don’t think living in a downtown condo automatically makes you a yuppie. But a law degree does.

    Jemal is back to residential at AVs? whatever happened to the “entertainment district?” BTW after having sushi the other night at Kushi, I NEED it.

    @Si – regarding residential at 6th & NY. I’m still hopeful for an entertainment anchor from Douglas on either Square 450 or 451. These blocks he owns are quite large and can each support multiple projects (although 500 units does sound massive).
