Police Week is back. The 2010 National Police Week runs from Sunday May 9th to Saturday May 15th.
National Police Week, which occurs each year during the week in which May 15 falls, recognizes the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
The National Law Enforcement Memorial transforms during police week. The site is adorned annually with wreaths, flowers, and pictures to tribute federal, state and local law enforcers killed in the line of duty.
The most notable presence of Police Week within the Triangle is the 3-day festival (May 13th-15th) on the raised parking lot over I-395 at 2nd and H Streets, NW. The event offers food, music, and police memorabilia. There is no cover charge and the event is open to the public; hours are generally 12:00 noon to 10:00 p.m.
