MVT CID Marketing Committee Meeting Minutes for March

Meeting minutes have been provided by Bill McLeod for the recent MVT Marketing Committee meeting. Discussion spanned a variety of topics including Liberty Market, a ribbon cutting for the public art at 5th & K, and other events throughout the year. Attendees included residents from City Vista V, City Vista K and Madrigal Lofts.

The Marketing Committee convened at 6:00PM. Mr. McLeod welcomed everyone and the members introduced themselves.

An event consultant, Amy Adams, has been retained to write a paper exploring five event ideas for Mount Vernon Triangle, including staff time, volunteer needs, and budgets. This report will be available at the end of March.

Liberty Market was shut down by DCRA on March 9th for no apparent reason. There is confusion about who has jurisdiction over Mount Vernon Square, vendors not producing their own goods, and what permits are needed.

DC Commission on the Arts will be hosting a ribbon cutting at 5th and K on April 6th from 1:00-3:00 for the art installed by David Black (Lift Off) and Ethan Kerber (Inspiration). There will be speeches by VIPs and then a reception at Busboys & Poets. Bill is trying to line up a marching band.

Casey Trees has granted MVTCID an in-kind tree grant to replant missing trees along 3rd Street. The tree planting will be April 8 from 9:00-12:00 and volunteers are needed. Last year’s tree planting in Triangle Park was a huge success and fun for residents.

Walking Town DC is coming up on May 22-23 at 2:00 p.m. The tour will start and finish at Mount Vernon Square.

A spring event was discussed, and it is pending the report by Amy Adams, including Taste of the Triangle. The restaurants included could be Akosombo, Kushi, Buddha Bar, Taylor Deli, Busboys & Poets, Safeway, Henry’s, Papa John’s Pizza, Level, Subway Café, and food vans to fill in the gaps.

The Capital Fringe Festival is coming in July. Bill will reach out to Julianne Brienza to see how we can partner for receptions and performance space in the Triangle.

Night Out Against Crime is set for August 3, 2010. The event would be a joint police bike ride from 6:00-7:00 and finish at Golden Rule Plaza with a barbeque. Sasha suggested getting the McGruff dog out and involving the Northwest One Library.

Walking Town DC will take place again in September – no date yet.

The Heart of DC picnic on Mount Vernon Square was discussed. Martin Moultin will be contacted to see how we can help produce this event again. Perhaps we can have a Battle of the Bands on the stage.

Durkl will be hosting at block party on Memorial Day Monday, May 31st. They anticipate attracting 500 people and hope to have live DJs and food trucks giving away food.

With no further business, the meeting ended at 6:50. The next meeting date will be April 20 at 6:00 p.m.
