Trash Day

Kudos to the people who are spending their Saturday cleaning the trash off the empty lot at 4th and L.  It looks like they’re doing a great job.  But with nothing to stop people from using the lot to feed the homeless, why won’t their efforts be wasted?

It is nice. It is keeping the hookers away better today than me calling the cops every couple of hours.

Whaaat? you have a problem with those Maryland ladies popping their car trunks, and handing out sandwiches??? Makes them feel real good, it does. Of course they don’t clean up the trash cuz that create a job for someone else.

My mother ran homeless shelters and substance abuse/prostitution/domestic violance rehabilitation centers in New York for 25 years. She has always been shocked by our neighborhood, the sheer number of facilities within a few blocks and the number of people on the streets. As long as they can subsist outside the shelters by panhandling from well meaning suburbanites and tourists, they will continue to refuse the valuable rehabilitation services provided by accredited non-profits as well as those they are entitled to as vets or due to disabilities.
